I grew up surrounded by music; encouraged to learn guitar and write songs as a young boy at home and inspired by all the songwriting that was happening in the 60’s. Now I am approaching 72. I wrote my first song when I was 14, singing Oscar Wilde’s Ballad of Reading Gaol to myself while walking our dog around a local park. my songs are like tracks left behind in sand or snow, looking back they mark a route stretching out behind me. when I make a new ‘track’ or song, then it is a step forward marking a route moving on.
soundtrack accompanies a film or broadcast – my songs accompany my lifetime, capture periods of time, moments, big ideas, small ideas, romances, losses and appreciations.
